Ewer Seljuk.35x15cm.This very charming copper ewer with engraved pattern work was sourced in Turkey. It has met the Australian Customs Department entry certification standard and is classified as antique.Seljuk era water jug. Thick and solid copper with its original patina. Lightly tin plated in a traditional manner. Characteristic ovoid shape, hand chased and tooled geometric designs. The animated well spaced and perfectly suited decoration is in tune with the artistic production from the mid 12th century to 14th century, when a huge variety of decorative themes and typologies were spurred, commissioned by the emerging strong bourgeoisie in north eastern Iran. Inscriptions occur on nearly every object and usually consist of anonymous wishes, though sometimes they might provide information about patrons, makers and dates of manufacture.
