On 2 November1885 the entrepreneur Alexander von der Nahmer founded a foundry in Remscheid. The company succeeded with the production of a hand-driven meat mince , which was discovered by the Nahmer in America and under license in Germany. Other products of daily life as well as machines for meat processing were also produced. After the death of the company founder in 1888 the sons Wilhelm and Adolf took over the management of the work and brought the company Alexanderwerk AG 1899 on the stock exchange. Numerous trade representatives were established abroad to ensure sales outside Germany. The Alexanderwerk had 3000 employees at peak times.
